When people in Albuquerque, NM, damage a tooth, or have naturally malformed teeth, then we may offer a solution with cosmetic dentistry. For example, dental contouring offers a way to repair teeth and provide a more attractive smile in a single visit. How do we perform the procedure, when should a patient see us for treatment?
With this procedure, we reshape a tooth by gently buffing away a small segment of outer tooth structure. We don’t remove enough to place the tooth at risk of developing decay, but enough to help improve issues with a tooth’s shape and surface texture. The entire procedure only takes one visit to complete. We may offer the procedure in the same visit as dental bonding.
By buffing the outer tooth enamel, we may reshape malformed teeth or those that have minor chips. We also remove pits or grooves in the tooth surface and help dull overly pointed teeth. In a single visit, we help improve the appearance of the tooth significantly. Contouring may also be employed to improve bite balance, reducing the risk of TMJ disorder, bruxism, and other symptoms of poor bite alignment.
We often perform the procedure alongside dental bonding. Unlike contouring, bonding doesn’t involve removing the structure from a tooth. Instead, we apply a composite resin to the tooth in several layers. The multiple layers of metal-free composite resin mimic the appearance of translucent tooth enamel. We then sculpt and shape the tooth as we cure it under a light, finally polishing the tooth for a more lifelike appearance. We not only repair minor chips, but also help reshape teeth, mask permanent teeth stains, and close unsightly gaps between the teeth. The composite resin can be shaded to match the rest of your smile and ensure your newly repaired tooth looks completely natural. In addition to bonding and contouring, we also offer lifelike veneers, which transform a tooth by completely altering the shape and color. We also offer professional teeth whitening, lifelike crowns and fillings, and even dental implants for those with missing teeth.
