Do you want to begin your year with your best possible smile? If so, then talk to your Albuquerque, NM, dentist. With cosmetic treatment, including professional teeth whitening and porcelain veneers, we can help mask stains and improve smile beauty. In today’s blog, we’re going to talk about our cosmetic treatments!
While you can easily purchase whitening strips and toothpaste at any store and use them from home, these have been linked to tooth sensitivity and don’t offer the same long-lasting and dramatic results as our at-home treatment option. We begin with a short office visit in which we take detailed impressions of your smile to create a set of plastic trays. We then send you home with these trays and a powerful bleaching gel. At home, you will fill these trays with gel and then place them in your mouth for about 30 to 45 minutes a day. The trays fit comfortably and help spread the gel evenly across your smile. The total amount of time you will need to wear them depends on the cause and extent of your discoloration but usually falls between a week and ten days. For many, teeth could be brightened by several shades.
Once you complete your treatment, what steps can you take to ensure your smile stays bright throughout the year? Start by avoiding cigarettes and other tobacco products, and cut back on drinks with dark pigments, such as coffee, red wine, tea, and soda, which can stain teeth. Consume fewer foods with high amounts of sugar and starch, which could feed harmful bacteria and lead to plaque buildup, a major factor in the appearance of teeth stains. Make time to brush and floss daily to remove food particles and control plaque, and see us every six months for a dental cleaning so we can remove all plaque and tartar from your teeth. Of course, you can also keep your trays and any leftover gel for touch-ups!
While most strains are extrinsic, meaning they form on the surface of your teeth as a result of your oral hygiene and eating and drinking habits, others could be intrinsic. These form beneath the enamel and could be difficult to remove with teeth whitening. In these scenarios, we may simply opt to mask the stains with dental bonding and porcelain veneers. If you have any questions about our treatment options or better oral hygiene habits, then please contact our team today to learn more.
